I rate first part (aka first half) of the book as 2.5/5 stars. It was pretty disappointing to have this constant rhythm of Violet and Xaden traveling back and forth to each other only to argue about trust. Violet is the daughter of a high ranking general and used to the military security structure... she should know better is all I'm saying. Also a lot of super convenient nearly plot armor events happen. This part only had little bits of plot and was missing a lot of the tight pacing from the first novel.

I rate the second part of the novel as a 3/5. We came out the gate with some plot that lifted some of my disappointment and reeled me back in. Significantly better pacing in the back half. I love the dragons and the battle scenes we're pretty well written. Romance took a bit of a backseat and we got a pretty good thread to the next book's plot.
