interesting world building with  various political and religious elements at play. I like Hadrian as a character— his interest in diplomacy and studying language over ambitions of power or strength is refreshing, and seeing his morals and ideas of freedom questioned as the events in the book take place made me excited to see him grow. Given the sprinkles of narration the reader gets from Hadrian in the future reflecting on the past, I look forward to see where the rest of the series goes.
