Every Dark Corner by Karen Rose

4.0

Over the years, I’ve read a lot of mysteries and thrillers, but I’ve never run into an agent like Special Agent Kate Coppola. Of course, she’s beautiful, smart, and good at her job. But what makes her different from the others is that when her brain starts whirring too quickly, her first instinct is to busy her hands. Usually, she’s carrying a knitting bag but when that’s not available, she reaches for a piece of paper and starts folding origami. This tickled me to no end and really endeared Kate to me. Even without this little quirk, she’s a very likable, if broken, character.

Griffin “Decker” Davenport, on the other hand, is pretty much a standard issue romance hero. Now, that’s not a bad thing by any means because he’s handsome, capable, and loves Kate completely. His backstory did set him apart from other heroes, not to mention that he was mostly able to control his alpha-male impulses once Kate put him in his place.

I love an intense mystery/thriller novel, the more depraved the subject matter, the better. I don’t know what it is about them, but I’m instantly sucked in and held hostage until the end. Every Dark Corner is no exception. Although this was my first novel by Karen Rose, I have a feeling it will not be my last. Her characters are flawed and damaged, but inherently relatable and likable. The story itself was heart-wrenching and engrossing, making you want to root for the heroes until the very end. I can’t wait to get my hands on more of her books.
