This was a very fun read. I would consider this more YA than I was expecting based on what I've heard about it, but I love a good YA, and I love a good challenge story, so I'm not complaining.
My one complaint is a staple complaint of the genre, and of the prequel book too - we have a badass FMC who's the best-of-the-best... and then she gets beaten by every man she comes across.Yes she just spent a year in prison, and yet where's the redemption? Let her kick Chaol's ass as a nice end to her retraining montage!
The 'good guys' are charming yet flawed, the 'bad guys' are overtly bad beyond redemption, and I'm invested in their respective successes and downfalls. I am a bit scared to grow attached to anyone -Fleetfoot my beloved.
Do recommend reading The Assassin's Blade first, I think it made me much more invested in Celaena's success.
