Dear Mr. Darcy: A Retelling of Pride and Prejudice
by Amanda Grange
3.5 rounded up. I enjoyed this but I can’t give so much credit to the writing because much of the language was copied and pasted directly from the 1995 bbc adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. I did enjoy the expansion of the world to include several new characters and seeing the beginnings of the Bingley family and everyone prior to the start of the original text. I liked seeing other characters reactions through all the letters but for a book written entirely in letters I was shocked to find that It lacked Darcy’s letter to Lizzie. Like…of all the letters to forgo it was that one? The most important letter in the entire story?????
Some of the additions also didn’t feel so necessary especially in all the writing from Mary as her insights didn’t provide anything except to remind us that Mary exists. She deserves better.
