I ended up really liking this book. Sawyer and Mason are pretty delicious as a couple. But I had a little bit of weirdness (for lack of a better word) with the meta-ness of the (un)romance tropes that make up the story. It felt a little too “in on the joke” in a way that felt hokey. I’m reading a rom com because I know I want the two characters to end up together through some exploration of tropes, so it feels weird to have the characters call those tropes out explicitly, even if that’s the plot device they’re following.
But either way, this is a love letter to rom coms of all varieties. And if you love a rom com, you’re going to love the subtle hints to them throughout. And you’re going to love how Sawyer and Mason fall for them all. Their relationship is precious. I love them the main characters fall in love basically by accident and then are like “wait, I’m in love.” Delightful.
