marissaddillon 's review for:
Ghost Eaters
by Clay McLeod Chapman
This book is so, so, so comically bad. I almost stopped reading it, but I’m not a quitter and I kept thinking it would get better. It never got better.
I am a huge postmodernist fan and it was my focus in my MA program, but this is too much. It’s trying too hard to be a postmodernist work.
The author uses words that don’t fit (just to use “big” words) and repetition that ends up being redundant. There would also be postmodern authors name dropped everywhere, trying to be tongue in cheek or allude to their works, but it was just awkward and ill-fitting. Then, I went to look for other reviews on here and the author put a 5 star review on here of his own book…which is just gross.
There are some parts that give an interesting take on addiction, but it’s not enough to save the book.
