Sunrise on the Reaping
by Suzanne Collins
This was a very disappointing read because I was hoping to learn more about Haymitch as a person, get to know him through the people around him, watch him be in love and get happiness but this felt like the opposite of all that. I just witnessed Haymitch go through more trauma than I've ever seen take place in a Hunger Game, and then the love of his life was just someone that he talked about rather than us seeing them interact.
This book also felt like something Suzanne wrote in order to try and explain the future events and characters which we already know about. I found myself not able to root for anyone or look forward to Haymitch potentially overthrowing the government because I know it happens in the future.
The writing felt unnecessarily detailed and complicated and I was having a hard time getting through the book.
As much as I like The Hunger Games series, for me this book felt like it wasn't needed but it was written anyway. Justice for Finnick!
