Tanglewreck by Jeanette Winterson
3.0

I love Jeanette Winterson and was thrilled to see that she'd written a children's book. It was good - although I have to say that the Jeanette Winterson children's book in my imagination was better. What I mean is - there were risks that I imagined she would take - quirkiness that I imagined would be there - things that would be grown-up but childlike and epic. And in my imagination, she went farther than the book actually did. HOWEVER - it was a fun, imaginative, exciting read. So -just because my expectations were impossibly high - doesn't mean the book isn't good! She also does manage to throw in some pretty wild actual quantum science.
There are shades of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere all over the place for me. Also, the obvious comparisons to Phillip Pullman stuff. And some Lemony Snicket thrown in for good measure. It just didn't QUITE do it.
