My wife and I are currently reading through all of Christie's books. Every time I arrive at a Miss Marple book I am excited, ready to fall in love with the character, but thus far I feel pretty disappointed. Unfortunately this book was not an exception. In many ways the 'detective' of the story felt somewhat incidental to the investigation, and this also meant we spent a lot of time in the heads of random secondary characters that I had little interest in hearing from.
The mystery itself was generally fine, and there were some elements I really likedsuch as the fact that the seeming 'playboy' character is secretly married. However, between this book and the last one from her I read (Evil Under the Sun), it does seem clear that Christie was in her misogynist era at this point. Clearly some feelings to work through regarding beautiful women!
