The Stranger
by Albert Camus
one of those classics that are very very easy to read and i would recommend to those trying them out. the main character is extremely detached from his existence and so the writing is just as detached and can be extremely boring to read, but it's only 130 pages so i say power through it.
maybe it's sad how much i relate to this main character, he just doesn't care about a goddamn thing, ever since it seems after he had to drop out of college/university, i felt that hard, and damn if i don't agree with him on death. for me of course, it's pretty extreme depression that leads to a complete lack of care for most things, watching my life on the sidelines type shit. yeah its sad and yes i have a therapist.except for the parts where he didn't give a damn about the poor abused dog and the abused girlfriend for whom the abuser she shoots a man for, i haven't reached THAT level of "i can't care anymore", and hopefully never will lol
there's definitely something to be said about the representation of Arab people in this book. yeah yeah 1940s but idgaf, i judge the book how i judge the book. but yeah at the end it was like most of the prisoners in jail were all Arab??? that's crazy lmao. i see a lot of people wondering at the treatment of women, and i think that was probably hopefully just to show the main character's complete detachment to anything, not giving a damn bout the dog or the abused girlfriend, and less of the author just hating women. maybe.
court scene:on the topic of the court sentencing him to execution for what seems to be mostly his emotional response, or lack thereof, to his mother's death rather than the murder of a man could be a bit on how society doesn't like those who don't behave in the way they like. if you ignore the literal murder, this dude is very detached and therefore extremely strange (gottem) to most every1 around him, making people dislike him ykwim
in conclusion, i greatly liked this book and i hope i understood it correctly
