I read this when I was a teen and really thought it was one of the best mystery books given the way he weaves in information from history and even consults experts. Reading it again as an adult, I think it still holds true with it being a very engaging and well paced read. I really was so sucked in with the lore and the way things went. I remembered little from when I first read it so experiencing it all over again was so fun. Not to mention, I decided to start this in Rome and while I travelled through Italy so I really felt the vibes throughout.

The story is quite a fixed form of adventure with rather predictable plot points but written very accessibly so that one cannot help but pour through it. It was also very fun to try and guess who the mystery person was. Making guesses and deductions based on the information revealed so far. What I love about this book and all Dan Brown books is that he puts real places into it and describes them so well. He incorporates these places into the mystery of it and it makes me want to visit the places or even just google the images to see what he is talking about.

When I was reading it, I correctly guessed around midway (do not read this spoiler, it WILL ruin your experience)
that the carmelengo was in on it but my reasoning was a lot more to do with Illuminati placing people in positions of power. However, his motives were entirely different. And I really was misled at the end with all the misdirections. The CERN director going in and all. I thought of crap I an wrong?? But then I thought about it and it doesn’t seem so as he was handicapped and would have been hard to brand him. The ending was such a revelation in so many ways.

I do have a couple of dislikes but it’s more of just prose style I prefer. I disliked the over description of things at certain parts. Like describing exactly how they look like etc. but describing the places really helped me envision how they looked like.

Nothing mindblowing but a generally fun read.
