Unnatural Causes: The Life and Many Deaths of Britain's Top Forensic Pathologist by Richard Shepherd

5.0

There are books we read that are formative even outside of our formative years but they are rare to find. I can guarantee that for the majority of readers, this will be one of those such encounters that will not only open your eyes but provide you with the form of education usually only acquired through years of experience. Richard Shepherd discusses not only his many years of experience as a forensic pathologist but also how the world is changing and how we are more than ever in need of empathy as disaster seems to become more and more common. Equally so I am happy that this excellent writer was able to use memoir as therapy to deal with the PTSD that such difficult careers can lead to and am grateful for the opportunity to learn so much about that which is usually taboo or kept silent. One of the best memoirs of any time period that I have ever read - only wish I could have read it sooner to write my undergraduate dissertation on it!
