Rules Of Our Own by J. Wilder
4.0
I don’t read any other pro sports romances (yet) so I have no idea if this is only happening in the hockey realm but lord help me if I ever meet a NHL player in real life. I’m going to have to ask him if he is in a throuple+ relationship with any of his teammates and if one of them plays the role of the quiet dom because, according to the books I read, it’s more likely than you’d think.
In college, Mia was great friends with hockey players Alex and River. Mia realized that it could potentially ruin the friendship between the guys to pursue a romantic relationship with either of them so she ghosted them both. Flash forward a few years and her friend Piper has “accidentally” booked Mia, River and Alex in the same suite for her destination wedding. You know they can’t survive the week without ultimately hooking up, and then they navigate their feelings and relationship possibilities on the outside world.
Alex and River were both peripheral characters in the previous two books and I’m ngl, River lived up to all of his restrained, thoughtful, brooding hype. This book has the most 🌶️ in the series by FAR (including a scene with details I’m pretty sure I’d never read before which now makes this series 2 for 2 in that regard) but it’s also really sweet to read as three people put their hearts out there in the hopes that their ideas about an unconventional romance will be reciprocated.
Rating note: I gave this four stars which, in my mind, means that I’d recommend it, but in this case it’s not so much a general recommendation as it’s a rec if you like reading about men in sports being absolutely filthy.
