Well, well, well, well, well, well here we are almost the end of 2020. The seasons are a changin and the cold weather makes you want to snuggle in your warm blankets and read a good horror novel. Which is exactly what I did with “ A Voice So Soft” by Patrick Lacey who I might add is very talented. This was my first novel that I’ve read of his and I must say I’m impressed. The flow was on point and I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. The story did not move too fast which I enjoy and it wasn’t slow enough to bore me to tears.
A basic summary of this novel involves two sisters who are twins , one is normalish with a hearing loss that is getting worse with time and one is a demonic pop star whose music turns people violent. The normal one of course must stop the demon sister but that requires help. It also includes the POV of other characters that aren’t super necessary but help with the flow of the story and the basic understanding of how Angie (demon) songs mess with their heads.
Like I said I liked the story but I do have 2 tiny, itty bitty , teeny weeny issues with number 1 being personal. As a mother of a daughter who will lose more of her hearing over time she still has the ability to hear with her hearing aids and a little without. This is called hard of hearing. I know it’s annoying but In the HH and Deaf community they are particularly not okay with mixing the two. At least In my experience it’s a whole thing. Also no one has I ever heard use the term “aids” when talking about their hearing aids, they may refer to them as my ears but never aids. But like I said it’s a personal thing. Secondly the ending. No spoilers but I dearly hope there is a sequel because the ending was so open ended and no true satisfaction. Anyway there is my review hope you liked it if not then I don’t know what to tell you. Happy reading!
