Bloodmarked
by Tracy Deonn
Tracy Deon (unsurprisingly) did it again- Bloodmarked is a masterpiece. I usually like the second in a trilogy the least- they’re typically slow, have a lot of filler, and don’t progress the story. They usually feel like a wait, a holding pattern. Bloodmarked shoved those assumptions out the window, cut into ribbons by an aether sword.
This book is gripping, dramatic, heart wrenching, and delicious. I wish I could drink it. Bree becomes her own person in this book, and it captures that inner battle of hers so perfectly. It’s so nuanced- this isn’t your typical “do I fight for me or the people I love?” dilemma, it’s a many-pronged fork in the road, with additional underground tunnels woven around. She has to find herself, understand how her own needs fit, balance her confusing feelings for Nick and Sel, the good of the Table, the good of her ancestors, a new scary villain waiting in the shadows, betrayal of those closest to her, her larger reputation and image, her father (who remains clueless), her human best friend….it goes on and on. It’s all masterfully woven together in a story that leaves you turning pages you didn’t realize you’d read yet.
And that brings me to Selwyn, my favorite bi-king campion, who truly can do no wrong in my eyes. I love how much we get to know him here. He’s BEEN my fav since book 1, and I cannot WAIT to see him in book 3. I don’t want to include and spoilers, but I truly would let Arthur possess me or get captured by demons if it meant I could spend some time with Sel <3
Can’t wait to read book 3!!
