SULA by TONI MORRISON
I’m always wary when I write a review on a Morrison book for obvious reasons, but knowing that this is also one of @deeshaphilyaw favourite books just ups the ante a little bit more!
Outstanding. Obviously.
Characters are complex and three dimensional, language is poetic and deeply moving, setting is vivid and alive. Most admirable is Morrison’s unmatched ability to bring these places and times to life. She’s writing about 1920s (and onwards) America and the experiences of Black people. She captures the suffering and hopelessness that surrounded these lives and it hurts like a punch to the gut.
She’s magic and unmatched. Can’t wait to continue on my Morrison journey.
