Mermaid
by Jodi Picoult
I picked this book because I love Picoult, and I love mermaids. I was listening to the audiobook, and didn't see that it was only 40 pages. When it said "We hope you enjoyed our reading of..." I was like what the crap? ! What kind of ending is that?! This book isn't what I was expecting from Picoult at all. The only reason the book is called mermaid is because the character , Hope, used to be one of those actors who swim underwater in a mermaid tail.
Just as I was like ok this might not be so bad if ended. Her husband and her have a pool in their backyard they turned into a breeding aquarium for fish. For some reason the fish disappear, and then the fake coral reef. All of a sudden Hope is hearing the pool? It's telling her to feed it sweets, then vegtables, milk, chicken noodle soup, etc.. It draws so much attention that a news crew comes, priests, nuns, disabled people, etc.. All wanting to witness this miracle of a pool that devours anything you throw in.
Never finding out why the pool is like that her husband says F this, drains the pool and fills it in with dirt. He's happy with himself and the book ends... Ooook
