His Black Tongue by Mitchell Lüthi

4.25

I was aching for a very specific type of horror: medieval horror.  There are not many options out there but this one scratched the itch.  It was dark and moody. The audiobook really elevated the experience, with music and sfx in just the right amount. I feel that to fully appreciate this atmosphere of this story, the reader needs to be familiar with the time period (historically and culturally).

I have to clarify that this review and rating applies only to His Black Tongue and not the other stories attached to this title: my audio version only had this one and it would be unfair to lower my rating for this story, which I loved, because the other ones didn't resonate with me at all.
