In the last few chapters of the book, the antagonist goes pretty mask-off with regards to how he views Filipinos/indigenous people/people of color as a whole. Also, the appropriation/commodification/exploitation of a (fictitious, in-universe) pre-colonial Filipino religious system is sort of the primer for the entire plot, so it’s pervasive throughout as a background element.
