The Dream Thieves
by Maggie Stiefvater
DID NOT FINISH: 84%
I didn’t believe I would dnf this book because it wasn't so bad and I was almost done with it but it went downward so quickly.
I felt like I was reading The Raven Boys all over again. Nothing new happened, the 30% or more looked exactly like the first book: them searching the ley line, a stranger coming to get a tarot card reading, us reading the pov of the villain (didn’t bring much to the story, thankfully the chapters weren’t long). To me, it felt like nothing happened at all for a book of 400+ pages. I could not tell you something that marked me in this book. This was exactly what happened in the Raven Boys but I let the author off the hook because I thought the first installment was to install the premise, the characters, etc…
Talking about the characters, well, they were really annoying. Blue and Adam exasperated me since book 1, I had no thoughts whatsoever on Ronan, Gansey seemed like the most decent one. Well Blue still stayed at the top, I could not like her, she gets angry every time over nothing ( at Gansey because she doesn’t like what she’s feeling for him, at Adam for whatever reason ), anyway I could not stand her.
As for Adam, reading his thoughts was dreadful, he was complaining again and again about how poor he was and how he didn’t want to be Gansey’s puppet. Honestly this melancholic monologue kept on and on. However towards the end he was more bearable. Ronan is your typical bad boy ? I don’t know, I didn’t care for him much. I also realized that this book was about Ronan accepting his sexuality, didn’t notice that although I did think that he and Kavinsky would share a kiss.
As for Gansey, I pretty sure he was none existent (not like Noah), I still liked him at the beginning but towards the end was pretty mean to Adam but then Adam was annoying too, so…..
Now this is labelled as fantasy- romance, where is the romance ?
Nothing happened between Blue and Gansey, I was super disappointed. And I also thought I would be reading about Ronan and Adam having feelings for one another but that was a disappointment too. I guess I’m gonna have to scroll through Pinterest to know how that’s going to go.
