A Land of Permanent Goodbyes
by Atia Abawi
This book about Tareq and Susan, two Syrian refugees, was so hard to read. I think the reason that I pushed through until the end was because it really forced me to think about how lucky we are to live in America, and how many people, including myself sometimes, take that for granted. Putting myself in the characters’ shoes, as a fourteen year old, I can’t imagine having to endure what they went through. Reading this makes me want to help out somehow, because I know how many people like these characters there are in the world, even if this book is fictional. Overall, this was an amazing, but depressing and difficult book to read.
(This is the first review I’ve written in Goodreads. After finishing this book I felt the need to write my view on the book out because it really got me thinking.)
