The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

4.0

This was such a touching story. We're told it's about a man, Satoru, going on a trip with his cat Nana, but we're not told why. The parts narrated by Nana are an absolute delight. You meet a lot of people along the way and you learn about how their lives intersected with Satoru's, getting to know them, and him, a little bit better every time.

The older men in this book, usually the fathers, tend to be rigid, stoic, and insensitive; these traits thankfully almost disappear in the younger generation of men, especially in Satoru, who is the sweetest man on the planet. A very bittersweet ending, with a little bit of a Studio Ghibli flair to it.
