The Write Choice by Allie Samberts

I've taken a couple of days to think about it, and I *think* this is my favorite book in the Leade Park series. I may try to re-read all three before officially deciding, but I figured that was the best way to start this review!

I adored this book! It's difficult to write about an existing relationship that needs mending and get me to care (I can only think of a couple of books that have done that well). Usually, the stakes either feel too high or the tension feels too low. Here, I believed everything about these characters and their situation: why they got together in the first place, what caused them to get to this point, and what was contributing to the growing gap. I was rooting for them, even when I was quite irritated with them -- which, I have to say, was often. Because, BOY, is Katie a frustrating character! She is stubborn in a way I cannot comprehend; I wanted to shake her. I don't need characters to be likable in order to enjoy a book, but it is rare for me to love a book so much that a character's irritating personality gets overshadowed.

This all sounds negative, but it's not a knock on the book itself. Katie is supposed to be frustrating; they both are. Because sometimes people are frustrating! They don't communicate effectively, and not in the miscommunication trope kind of way but in the, "communication can be challenging, even if we love each other" way.

All that to say that this felt real, compelling, and engaging. It was fun, sexy, and full of love. Sad to say goodbye to this world, but so happy for the joy it brought me this year.
