Eh. Despite this being a prequel series, I definitely recommend to try the Steel & Stone books before trying this book. I read this book before Steel & Stone, but I just found it disappointing, particularly in comparison to the Guild Codex Spellbound/Demonized series that were the first books I read from Annette Marie... After having caved and reading the Steel & Stone books though (and becoming invested in Lyre’s character), I think I probably would have liked this prequel book more if I had tried reading it after Steel & Stone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
