The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

5.0

“If you can’t stand being with a woman who’s more successful than you, then leave her alone. She’s better off without you. If you actually love her, then know the value of that love and make it a promise. That is the only thing she needs from you.”

This own voices contemporary romance spotlights the main character, Stella, with high functioning autism (formerly known as Asperger's) who struggles in the romance and relationships department. I am so late reading this series, but I am glad that I finally started it as it's amazing! It delivers an absolutely perfect execution of the fake dating trope too!

The main characters were written so well and had complex issues that made them feel so real and made for an excellent plot. Despite being a romance novel with lots of spicy scenes, nothing ever felt superficial and there were so many moments that made the scenes so complex and meaningful. I absolutely love the main characters and how unique they are. Stella was such a fantastic character and there were so many moments that I related to her and her struggles. As for Michael, his attention to detail and the way he treated Stella will make your standards so much higher (which are probably impossibly high if you're like me).

I loved this atypical romance story and how it gives you insight into the struggles with relationships and social cues that neurodivergent people can have. I am absolutely obsessed with this book and can't wait to read the next books!
