Until Death Do Us Part by Cassie Leigh

4.0

My Rating: 4.5

Ghost stories aren't really anything I've gotten into before, but that was the appeal that this novella had for me! I wanted to see how this author did with it, and it worked completely!

The story opens up to Millie hanging out in her attic domain, while a real estate guy shows an engaged couple the house that used to be hers. She is excited and nervous at the same time, especially when it seems that the man, Noah, may have actually SEEN her... when typically it's only small children that even care to take notice of her. Claire, his fiancee, had no clue that Millie was even there.

Once Noah moves in, it becomes very clear that he is aware of her presence in her home. He asks her if it bothers her that he's moved in, and proceeds to introduce himself. Millie seems completely surprised by this acknowledgment but also happy for the company in her home.

"Silence she could handle, but from Noah it unnerved her."

You slowly get the picture of what happened to Millie as the story continues and while it's a short novella, it's a complete story and was very fulfilling as a romance! She lived during the Great Depression and you also find out how she came to be a ghost in her own home. Her tragic past becomes something she can share with Noah, and they learn to connect, despite her not being in a human form anymore.

"Depression and life's cruelty may have driven her to a premature death, but it hadn't tempered her sweetness."

I really enjoyed the characters, and I liked that the house itself was also a character in the story. It held a history and a special place in Millie's heart. I love how she was so approving of Noah's changes to the house, when Claire wasn't.

"You brought my house back to life... I wish it could be the same for me. I can't even touch you. You deserve so much more."

This was my first book by Cassie Leigh, and I will definitely be following her as I've just found out she's writing a follow up to this novella. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
