If I'd read this on the page I wouldn't have 'got' it,  but Juliet Stevenson's audio narration rendered it more intelligible for me.  I usually enjoy stream of consciousness writing but it doesn't seem to work for me with Woolf's books.  Perhaps I'll try another of her works in a few years' time and have a better experience.  Let's hope.
