The Dangerous Ones
by Lauren Blackwood
Thank you to @macmillan.audio for the ALC of The Dangerous Ones! All thoughts are my own.
Maybe it's the influence of watching Vampire Diaries recently, but I very much loved this YA romantasy/paranormal romance featuring Jerusalem, a runaway slave who is a Saint - someone supernaturally enhanced with reflexes, endurance, and strength and Alexei, who is a vampire, a creature Jerusalem swore to destroy. It is very much enemies to friends to lovers with a slow burn across the book, but with lots of longing, mostly on his part.
I absolutely loved the voices of Jerusalem and Alexei, especially Jerusalem’s. Both voices and the wording of the dialogue truly takes the listener back in time to the civil war in this fictional version where vampires are involved in both sides of the war and the hunters, or Saints, are fighting alongside the Union army to bring them down.
The characters develop nicely throughout the story, realizing so much about themselves and why they are and feel the way they do.
You’ll love this if you like the Vampire Diaries, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer, or stories of revenge and taking down the person that has been inflicting so much pain and trauma on countless individuals.
