Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje

1.0

Why, oh why, did Ondaatje have to ruin a perfectly good book? I was sold on the story of Claire, Anna, and Coop, and if Ondaatje had stopped there this would have been a remarkable book. But instead he veers away from this beautiful relationship and never gets us back on track. I get the point he is making with Anna's Lucien story, but a brief interlude would have done just as well and I kept waiting for it to end. I was so bored and perplexed by the story of Lucien that I completely forget the good that I had found in the story of Claire, Anna, and Coop.
