The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was a cute little read. We follow Mika Moon, one of the few witches out there who loves her magic but has to keep it hidden for all the witches around her, who meet every third Thursday of every third month.

The plot is cute as well - we have Mika, who regularly leaves cities in the dust and doesn't get too attached because, well, she's a witch, and she can't share her secret; she now finds herself with a job teaching three young witches the way of life.

I enjoyed this novel because of the found-family elements, the cool witchy vibes that are perfect for the October/November timeframe, and because Mika is a strong character that I did enjoy. Therefore, I wanted to rate this above just a "it was decent" three stars. However, I struggled with this book at times - it was incredibly dialogue-heavy, with Mika often going on lengthy, preachy rants. Plus, I didn't connect with the romance like I thought I would. I take that with a grain of salt because I tend to be pretty picky with my grumpy vs. sunshine trope and don't usually love it. I feel like it was done okay here, but I felt Mandanna breezed over some of the relationship-building that needed to happen.

I had an inkling about the plot twist here but didn't guess it precisely right, so I enjoyed that! Overall, I enjoyed the book and thought it was a great Fall read, but I can't say it was super memorable. PS - I always like a book when they quote Emma by Jane Austen, though :).
