Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson

Being largely categorized as a romance, I thought I was setting myself up for an evening of classic "their loins ached for each other" type reading with lots of giggles.

Boy, was I wrong. This sucker has PLOT, and lots of it! The storyline, political intrigue, and mysterious badguys totally had this book rolling strong. I loved it. There's enough question about different characters' involvement in the evil plans that I honestly have no idea who is really in on it, besides BaddieA and Baddie B (A's sidekick).

The romance is there, but it's almost a classic Austenesque sort of romance, with wooing. The naughty bits didn't really show up until the last three pages. And honestly? The book would have been just fine without it but it didn't detract from it either. I'm happily awaiting my copy of Book#2 to show up at the library so I can see where this plot goes (because the storyline is really that compelling!).
