⚠️ CW: murder, child abuse, human trafficking, violence ⚠️ If you're looking for a funny, witty and cosy murder mystery then this one is for you! Life is good for 60 year old teashop owner and amateur sleuth, Vera Wong. Her teashop is bustling and her son, Tilly, finally has a girlfriend. Still, Vera can’t help but wish for some excitement and adventure. Sometimes all an old lady wants is a murder to solve. Then Vera comes across a distressed young woman in need of her kindly guidance. The woman is looking for her missing friend, Xander. Online he appeared to have it all, a parade of private jets, fabulous parties with socialites and a burgeoning career as a social media influencer. When Xander turns up dead, it seems he isn’t who he claimed to be. The police have no leads, but Vera intends to uncover the truth in the only way that this Chinese mother knows how, by spilling the tea. This book was so, so good and had me hooked to the point where I stayed up all night just to finish reading it and it was so worth it. Vera is an absolute ICON! She is the cutest, funniest and wittiest mother and grandmother figure that you could possibly want in your life. And the story isn't just about a cosy murder mystery investigation, it also has some great messages behind the storyline too. This one was a slower pace to the previous book but I still loved it, especially learning about all the new members of Vera's found family. Oh and just a warning, this book is filled with amazing descriptions of delicious food so probably not the best idea to read this on an empty stomach 😅 Overall, I highly recommend this read and cannot wait to read more by Jesse Sutanto in the future.
