A stressed-out college student wakes up in the body of a cliche novel villainess and figures if she can sidestep the drama of the story--starting with breaking her engagement to the philandering crown prince (who's going to fall in love with the story's heroine anytime now)-- this is a great opportunity to live a life of luxury as the young noblewoman...except the jerk won't accept her breakup! Fed up with the same old double standards from our world ("If he's cheating, it's because SHE didn't keep him satisfied!" etc), Melissa is determined not to let these crappy guys get away with being garbage, but she also has to deal with the consequences of her character's previous jealous, unstable behaviour, including widespread distrust and enmity, even from people close to her.
The 'villainess' premise is very common now, but I liked the choice to make the prince a cheating jerk (giving an interesting psychology angle to his refusal to break up), and the relationship with Melissa's father and brother. There's also some well-placed humor any woman or girl will relate to who has had to deal with jerk-y dudes and double standards, to keep the mood light. Though I've encountered a lot of villainess plots lately, I am interested to see how this one continues!
