Jay Hogan's writing is so beautifully emotive when it comes to both the setting of the story/series and the characters, you can't help but imagine yourself there and feel everything right alongside the men involved.
Life changed for everyone on Lane Station when Paddy had a stroke up on the hills towards the end of the previous book (Zach's story) and now we're on that station, focusing on his other son, Jules. Jules has been the one groomed to one day take over and it's come up more suddenly than expected. However, Paddy is fighting against them a lot, making things hard for everyone. The one shining thing to come out of it all is Liam, a personal physio to help with Paddy's recovery, but also the only man that has Jules considering all the possibilities with a man that he has ignored in the past. Liam is so understanding of Jules's situation and their attraction has them both open to something together but Liam is only there for a set time, then due to head back to Dunedin.
I think this may be my new favourite of the series, even though I say that with each book. The challenges that everyone faces, physical/mentally/socially, is a lot to work through and there are a lot of tough moments and choices to be made but it is perfectly balanced out by the joy that Liam and Jules bring to each other's lives. Jules is beautiful in his openness with Liam, and how he is slowly showing his true self to others on the station and in the local area. Liam's interactions with Paddy are fantastic. I love how he stands true to himself and is strong in the face of derision and homophobia.
There continues to be a fantastic cast of characters. It's good getting to know those on Lane Station more, after being on Miller Station for the previous two. We also have Liam's sister and nephew who bring some of their own drama, keeping Liam on his toes. I wasn't sure how to feel about Paddy for a lot of the book but I have come to love Jules and Zach's mum after not the best introduction to the couple in book one.
Another must read from Jay Hogan and part of this brilliant series.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
