Wilder Girls by Rory Power

3.0

Sapphic Love✔
Body Horror✔
Disappointing ending✔

Since I love a good Horror story I was quite excited to read this book and actually didn't read any of the reviews before starting as to not spoil myself.

The writing style itself is intriguing and kept me hooked.
The description of how the Tox changes the girls bodys was very fascinating and a great way to establish and uneasy feeling.

What I didn't like can be summarised in two main points.

1)the ending
So.... basically it's our main character's fault that everyone she and her two friends leave behind, when they escape Raxter, dies ?
How very unlikeable.
Main Char. kills the headmistress because she tried to gas the girls but then just leaves on a boat while the whole Island gets bombed of the map.
Especially weird since she is basically the reason why they'll eradicate everyone, since she broke the quarantine.
This ending makes me not pity the main char. but be annoyed by her self-righteousness and disregard for everyone except her BFF and her GF.
Very disappointing.

2)the scientists
Near the ending we finally find our what the Tox really is.
*major spoiler*
It's a parasitic worm.
Visible from the ourside.
Why tf did non of the scientists who were researching it for 1.5 years see it???
If even an high-school girl can see it, remove it from her body with as little as a scalpel and then be basically cured, why were the scientists so blind?
This really infuriates me because it's a big plot hole in my opinion.
The cure was that easy all the time?
And the girls even describe feeling something move in their body. Nobody thought about telling that to the researchers?
This is a huge negative point imo, it's just inexcusably illogical.

I would recommend this book if you need an easy read or want to experience some gore and body horror.
