The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea
by Yukio Mishima
Very interesting book.
I could do without the details of ships and randomly over exaggerated descriptions of everyday mundane things as poetry. Even if these exaggerated descriptions make the book hard to read, it adds to its beauty I assume.
As a story, it is not too interesting and needs a lot more context to fully appreciate it. This book is often regarded as a metaphor for the changing perception of masculinity in Japan at the time and served as social commentary.
A lot of themes went right over my head and I had to read up on a lot of things to make it all click in place.
This book made me feel dumb in the best way possible.
