The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

4.0

3.5 Stars.
In the first half of this book Anthony is an utter ass. Thinking the worst of Kate, dishonoring her with kisses then turning to Edwina as wife material. He even kicked her in the stomach. And although Kate retaliated- biting his leg and beating him at Pal Mal- it didn’t make me feel any warmer to Anthony. In the other half of the book, right before they marry Anthony started to be kind and honorable. And while he was still a dumbass for insisting he won’t fall in love with Kate, he treated her with compassion and respect.
There was some drama on Kate’s part about how traumatized she was by her mother’s death that Anthony very loyally held her hand through. And while I don’t mean to belittle parental loss, it wasn’t the drama I was salivating for. I wanted more tension between him and Kate, more them being in love but being too preciously dumb to know it. Though I will say that JQ did a great job tying Kate’s personal demons to Anthony’s. The ending was very cute and if I hadn't already skipped to Book 4 I would likely be starving for more Lady Whistledown.
One final note I want to add is that I approached this book as a completely different entity from the Netflix series. If you have already seen the series I highly recommend you do the same. These characters merely share the names as Kate and Anthony, the characters are radically different and you should not expect otherwise.
