This is the sequel to All Quiet on the Western Front, and while there's not as much brutal violence, the book is very dark and sad. It follows German soldiers as they return home after WWI, trying to find their place in the world. It's very thought provoking, and makes you realize that once a person is in combat, their lives are never the same. Great book.
