There was so much potential in this story and so many cool things that could’ve happened but just… didn’t.
So much of the story to me was very straightforward. “Kip did this. Scott did that. Kip felt this. Scott felt that.”It was extremely simple and almost disappointing.
There were a plethora of plot points that could have added to more interesting storylines than just another miscommunication trope, and I was very sad to see the author write all of them out so abruptly. Zullo could’ve been a great antagonist if he found out about Scott’s relationship, maybe using it against him to try and get himself back on the team. Or the part where Kip is applying to get a new job, but nothing comes of it. It could’ve been so much more. Maybe Kip got the job, but it would’ve required him to work longer hours or move further away, like Elena. There were so many chances to have a more interesting story but it just… didn’t.
That’s part of the reason it took me so long to finish this book. I just didn’t feel anything for the characters. They got into a relationship within the first quarter of the book, and the rest of the book is them having one argument and then everything is fine. They move in together within the first few months. What the hell.
I’ve heard great things about Heated Rivalry, and I’m going to try and see if it’s as interesting as people make it out to be, but this has dampened my interest in it heavily.
