A Thousand Perfect Notes
by CG Drews
This was beautiful. Heartbreaking. Bittersweet.
A truly powerful and outstanding debut. I've been leaning away from reading books tackling difficult subjects for a long while - only due to the harrowing and miserable events taking place in real life that I just needed joy and excitement from my books. And partly due to the agonizing trauma I'd feel after finishing an emotional story. It hits home. Lingers and leaves an aching feeling behind.
Regardless, they're mostly, usually, a fantastic and beautifully written story. C.G. Drews has nailed it flawlessly and her writing flourished throughout. I was so engaged and invested within the story and it's characters. It had my breath hitching when we had moments with Beck and his controlling mother, tremble when Beck is with his little sister Joey and gasping when he is with August.
I feel damaged but satisfied. I'll cherish this story.
