Speak: The Graphic Novel by Laurie Halse Anderson
DNFing. I'm a long time fan of the original book, so I got excited when my library finally had this version in. I snapped it right up. Unfortunately I was not thrilled with the way they decided to go with the graphic novel. It has a LOT of the text from the original book that wasn't needed. The point of a graphic novel is to express things with images as well as words. We don't need both at the same time. I felt like the images could have powerfully expressed a lot, instead we got text in every panel.
I was also disappointed in the art style. I was expecting something really original and dynamic like the cover, but everything seemed too safe and bland. A lot more could have been done and ultimately when I set this down I had no desire to pick it back up. I guess I'll just reread the original book instead.
