This is not a thriller, not a horror novel (ridiculous tag), and not a very clear or coherent story. It is speculative fiction with very little suspense.
There are some beautifully written lines and great commentary on a lot of topics but that's only a few pages towards the end. Overall, the plot is purposeless and the prose is very conversational, so the novel isn't literary or clever. A lot of nice quotes are actually taken from other authors and savants; the writer lists all her sources after the acknowledgments.
The people who thought this was blasphemous, are triggered by a woman with bisexual tendencies and a few mentions of mysticism and spirituality beyond dogma...
Regardless, I don't think this is worth the read.
