Une si longue lettre by Mariama Bâ

3.0

II found this to be pretty interesting! I've never really read a narrative dealing with polygamy before, and to see how the ideals and practices connected to it deeply affect women (and as a result, society as a whole) was more eye-opening than I thought. The postcolonial context of the book also pushes the characters to adapt to sociocultural changes, and the narrator who is hesitant to give up some of the ideals that have been engraved in her mind does struggle with this. The prose is very nice throughout from what I can tell (again, its written in French T_T) and it reads as a story that is also, as the title says, a very huge letter written by a Senegalese woman to her best friend. Overall pretty noice :)
