A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
4.0
Great characters, great plot, great book. I really enjoyed reading this, particularly as the book moved on and the web of action wound tighter and tighter.
The start of the book was a little difficult to get into, there were a lot of characters and scenes which didn’t seem to link. As they all started coming together, I became much more absorbed.
I particularly enjoyed the character arcs of Carson and Madame Defarge, but I was impressed with the complexity of nearly every character.
Some of the descriptions really stuck with me, particularly the romanticisation of the guillotine. I could really feel the people’s thirst for blood and vengeance. I felt like I was standing right there on the streets of the Revolution.
