Truthfully, I hated the ending. It has a cinematic, open-ending, which isn’t bad. But I’d have preferred something final. The reader assumes what happens anyway, and I don’t believe most people would assume otherwise. So it would make more sense to me for the characters to address it as well. They don’t, and that’s disappointing.  I think that’s why it isn’t exactly 4 stars for me. There are parts of the novel that are poetic that I wish were plain.

I’d recommend this to others, depending on their taste. Certainly am glad that the audiobook was recommended to me.

There’s also this:
Ellis is a shit person and a coward. I know that men like him exist. And it’s incredible writing on the author’s part to include Ellis. But I still hate him. “I didn’t want to be wrong about an innocent guy” or “I couldn’t go against a guy who was good to me” Are you kidding me? i know that patriarchy conditions men in this way. The camaraderie that it breeds makes it impossible for men to weed out their own evil. Especially not if it’ll help a woman and hurt a man. But my god. I don’t rate the book any lower for including this character though. It was just so unsettling, so raw.
