The Tenth Muse by Catherine Chung

4.0

Thank you Edel Weiss for the advanced copy!
description
This is a complex story, filled with history, friendships, heartbreaks, and math. Chung has done a wonderful job in finding a balance to all of these topics.

Characters - 4/5
We have mostly the main character, and a handful of periphery characters who push and pull, and effect the trajectory of Katherine's life (anyone else find it weird that Catherine would pick Katherine for the character's name?). Katherine is a solid character, she grows, she reacts, she is well developed, but not overly so. You learn quickly that trust is going to be hard to come by for any of the other characters, as secrets start being revealed.

Story line 4/5
While there are a number of different story lines off of the main, and a few short re-cap type stories, it all flows together nicely. Every story inside the story has a purpose. Even with twists and turns you can see where we are going, and there is no confusion of voice.

Writing 4/5
I don't think I tripped up once on sentence structure, and for an ARC that is saying something. Anymore I want to take a read pen to so many books, not so with this. Chung has a clear and concise voice, it is not over flowery, the message does not get bogged down - even the math speak will be easy to follow for non-science readers. It is just a well rounded well written book.
