Last Tang Standing
by Lauren Ho
Andrea is a hotshot lawyer working crazy hours trying to make partner in Singapore. She tries to outdo her office mate in an ongoing contest to see who can demonstrate that they are the most dedicated.
To her Chinese-Malaysian family, especially her mother, this is insufficient. Despite being successful, her mother wants grandchildren. Her family is very judgemental about her singleness.
I had a hard time getting in to this story which describes lavish locations in Singapore and brandname everything that I just couldn't relate to. It all came across as really materialistic and her mother was so anti- any one for her daughters who wasn't Chinese.
I guess it could be a little bit of sex in the city, Singapore style with her friends, but I just wasn't that in to reading about their fancy partying and expensive handbags.
I listened to this a an audiobook.
