cheskafamatiga 's review for:
Ship of Theseus
by J.J. Abrams
never read a book like this before. concept hooked me so bad!! strangers conversing on the margins of a stolen library book?? SOLD!!
PROS:
1. never read a book that had a sidestory in the margins and it looked like actual ballpen ink!! the different colors of the ink also indicated a different timeline for each "convo" and that was new to me
2. interactive!! had lots of pages, notepad paper, postcards, photos, and even tissue paper which u could pull out and read
3. the "main" story in the book had beautiful prose
CONS:
1. the "main" story lowkey bored me. also an unsatisfying ending but that was to be expected since the book "wasn't supposed to be published" anyway
2. jen and eric's side story wasted so much potential. i wish it focused on THEIR STORY not the people around them. it felt like i was reading moody's story instead of jen and eric's interactions within and outside of the pages. i also didn't care abt jen and eric's musings abt v.m. and i know that's part of the Mystery and their bond but it made it tedious to read them analyzing straka like two college students for a research paper sksk
3. kinda confusing bc even though it was color coded it didn't seem to be as chronological at times and maybe, again, that is the point. really need 2 take ur time 2 read it i suppose.
glad i still read it though and here's to more unconventional books!!
