Princeless Volume 1: Save Yourself
by Jeremy Whitley
In a way, I feel like I should have known better.
This is a graphic novel that largely does what it says on the tin. There's a princess, and she doesn't need to be saved, and heads off to save herself. The story is fairly well-structured to allow for the conceit to work, but, unfortunately, the book ends up trying far too hard and playing on various tropes as a sort of clue-by-four for a message that will resonate with a certain type of reader in the correct framework of mind while leaving the rest of us to roll our eyes.
If you look at this book, the title, the series, and say "yeah, this is exactly what I'm looking for in a comic," you'll probably love this. If story over message is more your tastes, though, this may be worth skipping for you.
